| 摘要: | 作者黎贝是加州柏克莱大学数学系教授，研究领域是代数数论与代数几何。他也是在2018 年底甫卸任的美国数学学会（AmericanMathematical Society，AMS）主席。他的许多研究成果为怀尔斯的费马最后定理证明奠定了基础。他经常参与各项关于费马最后定理的教育推广活动。
费马最后定理是最着名的数学问题之一，虽然早在 17 世纪就由费马（Pierre de Fermat）所提出，却一直到 1994 年才得到证明。在尚未解出费马最后定理的 350 多年之间，人们为了要证明它而发展出了许多现代数学的重要分支，其中包括整个代数数论的领域。 |
