Abstract: This paper presents the full-wave modal analyses of a uniform microstrip on a UC-PBG ground plane and the EME microstrip. Brillouin diagram clearly depicts the dispersion characteristics of both the UC-PBG structure and the EME microstrip. Oscillatory modal behavior of complex waves in the stopband of the UC-PBG structure and a bump of the propagation constant in the stopband of the EME microstrip are reported and discussed.
